The Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund
The Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund was founded in 1981 when it took over the work of the UK organisation - the National Grocers Benevolent Fund. The Fund is a Registered Charity (No. 6577) and is also registered under the Friendly Societies Act (No. 1775F).
Objects of the Fund
The object of the fund is to provide financial relief for persons in need, who have been involved in the Food & Beverage Trades. This includes retail grocers, wholesalers, manufacturers and general suppliers to the industry. During the past 29 years enormous work has been done to relieve hardship amongst umemployed and retired members who have fallen on difficult times because of ill health, umployment or bereavement. The fund continues in its efforts to reach more people in need.
Who is entitled to benefit?
Persons associated with the Trade who are on small incomes such as social welfare and / or small pensions.
Short term unemployed persons would be entitled to limited benefit but those in full employment would not qualify.
We are here to help
That help will be provided on a strictly personal and confidential basis through our Executive Secretary / Welfare Officer.
The IGBF is now helping
- Widows & orphans, of members of the trade
- Elderly and retired members in need
- Members whose dependents are seriously ill
- Members in need of nursing care at home or in an institution
- Cases of hardship arising from prolonged umemployment
What Grants of Assistance do we provide?

Emergency grants to meet debts and household expenses for repairs and renewals.
